UniBo Motorsport Partners with 3D Tech for Manufacturing

this is index.php

We are proud to announce the beginning of our collaboration with UniBo Motorsport, the official Formula SAE team of the University of Bologna.

Becoming an official sponsor of such a prestigious project is an important milestone for 3D Tech. It reflects our commitment to supporting innovation, engineering excellence and the next generation of automotive professionals through advanced manufacturing technologies and industrial 3D printing.

What is Formula SAE?

Formula SAE, also known in Europe as Formula Student, is one of the world’s most prestigious educational engineering competitions. Every year, university teams from across the globe design, manufacture and race a prototype formula-style race car, applying real-world engineering principles in a highly competitive environment.

Unlike traditional academic projects, Formula SAE requires students to manage the complete product development cycle. From concept design and structural analysis to manufacturing, electronics, software development, testing, validation and project management, every aspect of a professional motorsport program is recreated within the team.

The competition evaluates not only vehicle performance on the track, but also engineering design, manufacturing quality, cost analysis and business presentation, making Formula SAE one of the most effective pathways into the international motorsport and automotive industries.

UniBo Motorsport: Engineering Excellence

Founded in 2009, UniBo Motorsport is the official racing team of the University of Bologna. Today, it brings together hundreds of students from different engineering and scientific disciplines, working as a professional motorsport organization dedicated to developing Formula SAE and MotoStudent prototypes.

Over the years, the team has established itself as one of Italy’s leading university motorsport programs, combining technical innovation, research and practical engineering experience.

Beyond its educational value, UniBo Motorsport has built a strong network of collaborations with some of the most respected companies in the automotive, motorsport and advanced manufacturing industries. Becoming part of this ecosystem of technological excellence is a source of great pride for us and represents an important recognition of the expertise that 3D Tech brings to industrial engineering and additive manufacturing.

The Role of Industrial 3D Printing in Formula SAE

Modern motorsport is driven by continuous innovation and rapid development cycles. Every component can undergo multiple design iterations before reaching its final configuration, making speed and flexibility essential competitive advantages.

This is where industrial 3D printing and additive manufacturing have become fundamental technologies.

Rapid prototyping allows engineering teams to manufacture functional components, assembly fixtures, testing tools, aerodynamic prototypes and validation parts in a fraction of the time required by conventional manufacturing processes.

By combining advanced engineering with high-performance technical polymers, teams can quickly evaluate new concepts, optimize designs and reduce development time while maintaining high dimensional accuracy and excellent mechanical properties.

How 3D Tech Will Support the Team

As an official sponsor, 3D Tech will contribute its expertise in industrial 3D printing, functional prototyping and advanced polymer manufacturing to support the development of future UniBo Motorsport prototypes.

Using professional additive manufacturing technologies and engineering-grade materials, we will produce functional prototypes and technical components that will assist the team during design validation, fit verification, functional testing and product development.

Our objective is to accelerate the engineering process, allowing ideas to move from digital design to physical validation in the shortest possible time while maintaining the high quality standards required by motorsport applications.

Looking Ahead

We strongly believe that collaboration between universities and industry is one of the key drivers of technological innovation.

Supporting UniBo Motorsport means investing in future engineers, advanced manufacturing and the continuous development of technologies that often find applications far beyond the racetrack.

We are excited to become part of the UniBo Motorsport family and look forward to contributing to the team’s future achievements throughout the upcoming Formula SAE season.

The journey begins immediately with one of the most prestigious events on the Formula SAE calendar. The team’s next challenge will take place at Formula Student Austria, hosted at the legendary Red Bull Ring in Spielberg from 26 to 30 July 2026. Widely recognized as one of the most iconic motorsport venues in the world and home to numerous international racing championships, the Red Bull Ring provides the perfect stage for university teams to showcase months of engineering, innovation and teamwork. We are proud to support UniBo Motorsport as they prepare to compete on such a prestigious circuit.

We wish the entire team every success for the challenges ahead.

Artificial Intelligence: Tool or Illusion? Only Expertise Turns It Into Real Value

this is index.php

Over the past few years, generative artificial intelligence (AI) has been marketed as a game-changing force: effortless efficiency, doubled productivity, and near-magical automation. But now that the initial excitement is wearing off, cracks are beginning to show — and the truth is far more complex.

A recent independent report from METR has revealed a shocking reality: even experienced developers, when using AI tools, were 19% slower compared to when working without them — despite believing they were 20% faster. The gap between perception and performance highlights a dangerous trend: when used without expertise, AI can create more confusion than clarity.
