F1 in Schools: An Educational Challenge for Future Engineers
F1 in Schools is a global educational initiative that introduces students aged 14 to 19 to the world of Formula 1 engineering and team management. The competition, which made its debut in Italy in 2021, challenges students to design, manufacture, and race a miniature F1 car powered by compressed air, while also managing the business and marketing aspects of their team.
With over 27,000 participating schools worldwide, the program serves as an incubator for future talent in engineering, aerodynamics, and business strategy.
This year, 61 Italian schools have joined the challenge, competing in regional qualifiers for a chance to reach the national final in Fiorano—the home of Ferrari. The national champions will then advance to the World Finals in 2026, where they will represent Italy on the international stage.
VoltaRacing: A Promising Debut and a Spot in Group B
Among the standout teams in this year's competition is VoltaRacing, representing Istituto Volta di Borgonovo. Despite being first-time participants, the team successfully qualified for Group B, proving their skills in engineering, aerodynamics, and teamwork.
This achievement is particularly impressive given the challenges faced by first-year teams, which must navigate rigorous design regulations, tight production deadlines, and sponsorship acquisition. VoltaRacing demonstrated exceptional technical knowledge and problem-solving abilities, earning recognition as one of the most promising newcomers in the Italian leg of the competition.
